"Being a physician defines who I am and caring for others is at the core of my being."
It is in the DNA. Dr. Duggan's father, Paul, was a highly regarded physician on the South Shore for many years, and his brother, Michael, also practices locally. Dr. Duggan is a graduate of Hingham High School, where he was actively involved in athletics and extracurricular activities. He is a triple Hoya. He completed his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University (Pre-Med/Spanish literature) and then went on to obtain his medical diploma at Georgetown University Medical School. He did his internship at Emory University and then completed his residency training at Georgetown, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.
Dr. Duggan has accrued approximately 6,000 hours in paid positions and over 30,000 hours doing volunteer work in numerous international settings. This is in addition to his full-time career in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine in the United States - in a practical sense, doubling the number of hours that most physicians have worked at this stage of their career. He has had the privilege to work alongside specialists from most areas of Medicine and Surgery, enabling him to acquire knowledge and develop skills that go well beyond the usual scope of his primary training. Working in resource-poor areas, he has assumed responsibility for patient care across a very broad spectrum of diagnoses and associated treatment interventions. He is comfortable with all ages and all levels of acuity and has a working knowledge along with surgical and procedural skills from many areas of medicine. His exposure to a rich tapestry of backgrounds and beliefs has instilled in him remarkable patience, cultural sensitivity, and the adeptness to overcome language barriers and cater to diverse patient needs.
He is extremely approachable. Most of his patients globally refer to him as Dr Frank, reflecting an intimacy that is now considered rare between a doctor and his patients.
